What has been your greatest achievement in your working career?

Successfully managing the life of Oprah Winfrey for over a decade, 2001-2011. Without all the fantastic assistants that I worked with during that time, I would not have lasted 6 months. It was truly a TEAM effort, and I appreciate every single one of them.

Have you had a mentor in your career (other than Oprah)?

Mary Macdonald O’Brien. When I worked as an assistant to Jann Wenner, the publisher of Rolling Stone, Mary was the 1st assistant and I was the 2nd assistant. She was my manager and she taught me so much! She was excellent at her job, she was kind, and everybody loved her. By observing her and working by her side, she taught me how to manage by modeling professionalism, and being a great manager herself. She inspired me to do great work. She was respectful and appreciated those around her. She was truthful and real, and I absolutely loved working with her! I am so grateful to her.

How do you manage multi-tasking?

Today I have set up my life in a way that I rarely need to multi-task. In my coaching and consulting, I usually focus on one person at a time, one task at a time. It is heaven.

When I was working with Oprah, multi-tasking came naturally to me, it was like a muscle that built up over the years.

What are you looking forward to about coming and speaking at OPB in 2019?

I love that OPB is about rewarding and recognizing office professionals. These are my people! It is so rare that this group is recognized, and I am very excited to be a part of this much deserved celebration. I like spending time with the attendees, so I am looking forward to mingling and talking with people. Also, I am giving a big shout out to the CEO’s of Australia, this would be a great time to show your EA/PAs how much you appreciate them, bring them to OPB!
